Fresno City Crowned State Dual Champs

Fresno City College is king of the state wrestling mats once again.

State No.1-ranked Will Gockel-Figge beat No. 2-ranked Mt. San Antonio’s Nathan Rodriguez 3-1 in overtime in the 184-pound division to clinch the state dual championship title for the Rams on Sunday, their fifth in the last nine years.

Fresno City, ranked No. 3 in the state, won 23-15 over the No. 2-ranked and defending state dual meet champion Mounties in Fresno.

Top-ranked 125-pounder Arnulfo Olea pinned No. 3 Gio Castillo in 4:40, and at 157 pounds, No. 6-ranked Adrian Gomez knocked off No. 4 Jaime Jimenez 2-0 .

At 141 pounds, the Rams’ No. 3-ranked Jonas Gaytan upset state No. 1 Terrill Sidner 8-4.

“All of our wrestlers competed really well today and I’m proud of them,” said coach Paul Keysaw. “We outworked (Mt. SAC) on the mat today and that was the key to our victories.”
